Pair of Victorian Balloon-Back Chairs – Mahogany – circa 1850
Two related English Victorian Balloon-Back chairs in mahogany, dating from the mid-19th century, approximately 1840–1860.
The characteristic open, softly curved backrests give this chair type its name. The front legs are elaborately turned, while the rear legs are splayed slightly outward.
The mahogany displays a beautiful patina developed over decades. Especially on the broad backrests, the old surface with its fine age-related craquelure is clearly visible.
The seats have been professionally reupholstered at a later date and covered with beige fabric. The fabric shows minor signs of age and use.
Both chairs are stable and in good condition for their age, with minor wear and irregularities. Please note the close-up photos as part of the condition description.
