Description from the seller
J. Caminada Amsterdam – Antique fireproof cash box / safe chest with original keys – circa 1900
A very handsome and exceptionally heavy fireproof cash box made by J. Caminada Amsterdam, a well-known Dutch manufacturer of safes, strongboxes and cash boxes in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
This imposing cash box is made of solid iron and features a fireproof inner construction. The original manufacturer's plaque on the lid bears the inscription “J. Caminada, Kloveniersburgwal 58, Amsterdam”, clearly documenting the provenance of this piece.
The cash box comes with its original keys and a working lock mechanism. The lid closes securely and has a sturdy locking system on the inside. Heavy recessed carrying handles are fitted on both sides. The front is richly decorated with a decorative cast ornament in the Neo-Renaissance style, making this box not only functional but also particularly decorative.
The original fireproof inner tray is still present and is finished in a contrasting yellow colour. The combination of attractive decoration, completeness and documented provenance makes this an appealing collector's item for enthusiasts of antique safes, industrial heritage and historic office furnishings.
