Description from the seller
Rare convent devotional painting – Crowned Infant Jesus – German-speaking area or Austria, 18th century
Devotional painting depicting the crowned Infant Jesus, richly dressed in a red and silver striped fabric robe, adorned with trims and embroidery in gold metallic threads.
The composition, particularly refined, is surrounded by textile ornaments, flowers, pearls, and religious motifs executed in metallic threads, characteristic of convent devotional works from Central Europe.
In the lower part there is an old handwritten inscription in German, referring to the Infant Jesus of Bethlehem, to a period of one hundred years, to divine Providence, and to a female convent named Maria Loretho (Our Lady of Loreto).
This inscription constitutes a valuable historical testimony, suggesting a convent origin and a commemorative or votive function.
Probable origin: Southern Germany or Austria; perhaps Salzburg
Estimated period: 18th century
Condition: The piece shows an old patina, with wear, alterations, and fragility of the textile and decorative elements, consistent with its age.
The photos are an integral part of the object description and complement the presentation. They allow you to assess its condition and characteristics. Please examine them carefully before any commitment
The item will be carefully wrapped and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
Happy bidding
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred art object. The relics it contains are not the subject of the transaction, but are included gratuitously for their historical and cultural value.
