Photograph titled 'Fileuses arabes, Egypte' by P. Sebah, an albumen print from circa 1880, 18 × 26 cm, signed, in TTB condition with good contrast and detail, not mounted on an album page.
Description from the seller
Around 1880, 18x26 cm. "Arab spinners, Egypt", a very beautiful period albumen print, in excellent condition with preserved contrasts, gray tones, and levels of detail from Good to Superb, by Pascal Sebah.
The value of this print lies in it not being mounted on an album page or cardboard backing, which is rare.
Labeled and signed at the bottom of the print, in the negative.
Rare subject, not posed, in action.
Deserves framing (slight edge waviness with sepia toning as is often the case).
Will be shipped with its neutral pH sleeve (ideal for a collection in good condition).
Pascal (P.) Sebah is one of the great photographers active in Constantinople in the latter half of the 19th century. His studio, located in the heart of the city, quickly became a reference for travelers and diplomats seeking images of the Ottoman Empire and Egypt.
Sebah produced portraits, scenes of “types” and monumental views with great technical mastery and careful staging.
