Description from the seller
Hour Lavigne Paris – Prestigious Officer's Clock in gilded bronze – 1981
Splendid and important French table clock signed Hour Lavigne Paris, historic manufacturer of high decorative watchmaking, renowned for the excellence of its creations and the refined artisanal tradition.
The origins of the house date back to 19th-century Parisian watchmaking and to the figure of Charles Victor Hour, master watchmaker who in 1881 took charge of an important workshop specialized in precision movements. Subsequently, from the association with Maurice Lavigne, the famous name Hour Lavigne was born. The prestige of the manufacture was consolidated by important international recognitions, including the Brussels Grand Prix of 1910 and the Turin Grand Prix of 1911.
The piece offered, datable to 1981, interprets with extraordinary elegance the historic French Pendules d’Officier, inspired by the Neoclassical canons of the Louis XVI and Empire styles.
The solid bronze structure, with a considerable weight of 2.6 kg, features a refined dark tortoise-shell lacquered finish, magnificently contrasted by gilded bronze applications. Engraved emblems with vegetal motifs, worked feet and an elegant top handle adorn a composition of great aesthetic harmony.
Particularly sought after is the white dial with Arabic numerals, gold-plated cut hands, and the house signature, framed by a refined gilded bezel.
The manually wound mechanical movement is equipped with hour and half-hour striking. The mechanism is functioning but tends to stop; a service is therefore recommended to ensure regular running, the striking is perfect!
Stamps of manufacture present, serial number 1364, indication 81 and France mark.
The clock is in excellent cosmetic condition, with finishes of notable quality and a particularly impressive presence.
An authentic object of decorative prestige, expression of the great French clockmaking tradition, perfect to embellish a directional desk, a library, a console, or a refined reception area. Also ideal as a contrasting element in high-end contemporary interiors.
