Cobalt-blue glass dish with a colorless overglaze, dating to ca. 1955–1975, attributed to Vallérysthal, France; dimensions 20 cm high, 29 cm wide, 27 cm deep, weight 1.9 kg, in Mid-Century Modern style with a solid cobalt-blue core and clear radiating points.
Description from the seller
From the same Lorraine series as the labeled Vallerysthal pieces: cobalt blue glass, drawn hot into a frozen splash. This splash bowl in Mid-Century Modern weighs 1900 grams and stands 20 centimeters tall. The bright points carry the cobalt-blue core like a flower blooming. On a light table, the piece becomes the saturated heart of the room.

Description:
A solid cobalt-blue core, overglazed with a thick layer of colorless glass, is still softly drawn outward into a crown of pointed tips. The long points reach upward, the short ones bend away like a splashing droplet. The cobalt blue extends to the base of each point and lightens there to clarity. The underside is flat-ground and polished to a rounded window, so the bowl sits stably.
About the maker:
The Cristallerie de Vallérysthal in Lorraine traces back to a glass foundry from 1707; the crystal factory was inaugurated in 1838. From 1872 it joined with Portieux into one enterprise, famous for opaline and pressed glass. After 1945 the factory focused on crystal; that is when the freely formed, colored decorative pieces emerged to which this bowl belongs. In 1970 it became part of the Compagnie Française du Cristal; the factory closed in 1977.
In the interior:
On a light dining table by a west-facing window, the cobalt blue against the evening is the only saturated point in the room.

Condition:
