Unidentified Azhdarchid pterosaur limb bone (ulna), Cenomanian age in the Upper Cretaceous, 17.7 cm long; restored; authentic/original specimen from the Ifezouane Formation, Taouz, Kem Kem Beds, Morocco.
Description from the seller
Scientific name: Unidentified Azhdarchid Pterosaur limb bone - Potencial Ulna
Location: Taouz, Errachidia Province, South Morocco
Geological Formation: Ifezouane Fm - Red Sandstone Beds
Age: Upper Cretaceous, Cenomanian stage ( 96 million years)
Size: 17,7 cm
REF.: #J1011
DESCRIPTION:
Observations: Azhdarchidae pterosaur family – Possible Ulna
This fossil bone is tentatively attributed to a pterosaur belonging to the family Azhdarchidae. Based on its overall morphology, the specimen appears to represent an ulna.
The bone is relatively well preserved; however, part of the distal epiphysis has been reconstructed. Due to this reconstruction and the absence of certain original anatomical features, a definitive identification of the skeletal element cannot be established with complete certainty.
Nevertheless, its morphological characteristics strongly suggest that the specimen belongs to a pterosaur of the family Azhdarchidae.
Its morphology resembles very much that of the Azhdarchid pterosaurs. Two genus of Azhdarchid pterosaurs have been described from the Upper Cretaceous (Cenomanian stage) of South Morocco. One of them, the genus Alanqa and the other the genus Xericeps, along few others. This specimen is something unique and worthy of study and comparison to similar remains already published. High scientific value.
All of our fossils come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Every week, the issued Certificates of Authenticity are updated in our database verification system on our website. If you find that your certificate has not yet been updated, please contact us and we will update it immediately. Display box not included.
