An absolute world rarity for kauri specialists: a flawless giant specimen of the unusual Barycypraea teulerei.
This highly interesting porcelain snail, scientifically classified as Barycypraea teulerei, belongs to the anatomically and visually most extraordinary representatives of the kauri snails. The offered splendor breaks all standard measures: at a size of 49 mm, this specimen sits at the biological maximum for the species (average size is only 35–42 mm).
Crowned by GEM classification — the shell possesses a deep mirror-like gloss, perfectly flawless margins, a perfect aperture, and is completely free of defects, growth lines, or dull spots.
Product details at a glance
• Scientific name: Barycypraea teulerei (Cazenavette, 1846)
• Family: Cypraeidae (porcelain snails / kauris)
• Quality / condition: GEM (absolute top quality for the most discerning collection).
• Size: 49 mm (rare, fully grown giant form / Heavy-Callused).
• Morphology: Unique, almost bumpy ("humped") shell form with dramatically thickened, heavy rims. The dorsal pattern shows the typical, fascinating asymmetrical spotting and banding in olive, gray, and brown tones on a cream-colored base with a sharply demarcated, light base.
• Origin & habitat
• Locality: Gulf of Oman (endemic region in the northwest Indian Ocean).
• Habitat & capture: This species is geographically highly restricted. It primarily lives on sandy-mud bottoms and under rocks in the tidal zone (intertidal). Such immaculate prize specimens are harvested by local specialized divers or fishermen by hand during extremely low tides, without damage, under coral rocks.
