AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Lot of 48 original crystal positive stereoscopic photographic plates (early 20th century)
Magnificent set of 48 crystal stereoscopic plates in positive, most of which are signed and identified in the central band as "VÉRASCOPE RICHARD". Many of the plates contain original handwritten annotations in French detailing the locations, dates and titles of the shots. Manufacturer / System: Vérascope Jules Richard (Paris). Era: Circa 1900 – 1920. Theme and Content: A wide variety of mountain landscapes and passes of the Pyrenees (Col du Pourtalet, etc.). Panoramic views of the Dordogne valleys and French rural areas. Architecture and churches (religious scenes of masses/inside altars, Gothic portals, abbeys). Coastal scenes, bridges, country roads, an early cable car and portraits of the era. Condition: Generally good vintage condition, considering its age. Some plates show small signs of wear, patina or oxidation on the corners or emulsion typical of gelatin-silver bromide plates, but the images retain excellent sharpness and contrast for viewing or digitization. An ideal lot for 20th-century photography collectors, the history of stereoscopy, or French geographic and architectural themes.
