Sardinia, ancient Italian states, 20 c. azzurro I tavola on letter from Gavardo (BS) to Bologna dated 5 September 1860, Sassone No. 15Ca; used by post, with certificate and expert signature.
Description from the seller
The letter and the stamp, as shown in the photographs, are in perfect condition.
The cancellation was impressed with the rare lozenge-shaped mark, a transient and late-use inherited from the previous Lombardo-Venetian period, applied to Sardinian stamps before the definitive standardization of the Kingdom of Italy's postmarks.
The letter travels from Gavardo to Bologna (completed by the arrival stamp on the back), and represents a splendid document of interregional correspondence after the plebiscites (March 1860), bearing witness to the postal and administrative unification between Lombardy and the former Pontifical Legations under the crown of Vittorio Emanuele II.
A letter of this quality, with these historical premises, sits in the elite tier of items for the Risorgimento Lombardy postal history.
The commercial value of this specific document is driven by the combination of three factors very rare to find together: the late-marco philatelic pairing, the prized shade of the stamp (15Ca), and above all the impeccable condition.
Catalog value estimated between 4,000 and 5,000 euros.
Any white lines in the images are due to scanning.
Shipped with insured tracking.
