Description from the seller
Stupendous and refined fall-front writing desk (also called flip desk or bureau à dos d'âne), a classic antique furniture piece crafted in the Louis XV style or Barocchetto, by skilled Italian cabinetmakers and marquetry specialists of the mid-20th century. The piece stands out for its sinuous and lively lines, supported by tall saber legs, the so-called "cabriole" typical of Louis XV, enriched by ornamental feet in chased bronze. The structure features a fine woodworking with veneering and inlays in precious woods, primarily Bois de rose and other noble timbers, and is enriched by elegant geometric inlays and central panels decorated with refined floral motifs on the fall-front, on the sides, and on the back, which makes this extraordinary furniture a unique piece, precisely for the richness and completeness of the inlays on all sides of the piece. The upper part presents an oblique fall-front door that, when opened, serves as a writing surface and conceals inside a small pigeonhole with drawers; beneath the writing surface lies a wide drawer with bronze handles. A unique piece of the highest cabinetmaking, completely original, handmade on commission, therefore no two pieces are alike.
