Description from the seller
A splendid and characteristic example of applied art from the heyday of the Amsterdam School (c. 1910–1930).
This authentic red-copper decorative bowl perfectly embodies the expressive, organic, and plastic language of form that is so distinctive of this renowned Dutch Art Deco movement.
The bowl is entirely hand-made with artisanal repoussé work, with the subtle hammer marks across the entire interior still beautifully visible. What makes this specific design so special are the pronounced radial ribs on the rim. They give the bowl a wavy, sculptural character that dynamically disrupts the classical round form.
The object is in a beautiful, well-worn vintage condition with a warm, deep red-copper glow and a very handsome, authentic patina in the deeper parts. A wonderful, authentic collector’s item and an absolute eye-catcher in both classic and modern interiors.
Style: Amsterdam School, Red copper (hammered and repoussé)
Signature: Not signed (very common for this type of copper work from the period)
Perhaps by Bogtman, Fehn or Zwollo but this cannot be stated with certainty.
Diameter: 28 cm: Good, authentic condition with lovely age patina and normal signs of aging consistent with its age (see photos for an accurate impression).
