Description from the seller
Large and imposing altarpiece crucifix (height a substantial 69 cm) in Neo-Gothic and Eclectic style, datable to the late 19th and early 20th century.
The piece is made in solid bronze/brunished brass, characterized by a splendid and dense dark patina original to the period.
The design is extremely refined and rich in sacred details: the cross features trilobed terminals and is embellished with a finely worked rear radiating disk to symbolize divine light. The slender shaft is decorated with a fluted column resting on a majestic geometric base adorned with relief friezes and ornamental volute feet.
Solid and modular structure, originally conceived in three distinct sections that join via the antique system of a central threaded pin screw, typical of the period's sacred manufacture to facilitate transport and maintenance.
Details of the item:
• Type: Sacred furnishing / Altarpiece crucifix
• Era / Period: 1880 - 1920 (End of the 1800s / Early 1900s)
• Material: Bronze / Brunished brass
• Dimensions: Height 69 cm
• Condition: Very good, structurally intact. Presents a beautiful natural patina of age and normal signs of wear consistent with the age. No obvious invasive restorations.
Conditions as in the photo show evident signs and stains of time.
