Description from the seller

Center Table with a Single Pedestal in Carved Walnut - Rococo/Victorian Style - 19th Century

Main Description

Offered is a refined antique single-pedestal center table, a piece of furniture of great elegance dating probably to the second half of the 19th century. This table embodies the opulent and refined taste of Rococo Revival or High Victorian periods.

Top:

The table features an oval-shaped top, made with high-quality walnut veneer. The grain (walnut burl) is vivid, complex, and creates a beautiful natural "flame" pattern that catches the light, as visible in the close-up details. The edge of the top is finished with an owl-beak molding, rounded and smooth to the touch, which adds depth and definition to the silhouette. The surface finish is a glossy spirit polish (French polish) that enhances the warmth and richness of the wood.

Base:

The top rests on a sturdy and dramatic central pedestal in solid wood, finely carved. The main shaft is sculpted with a fluted baluster or tortile motif, tapering elegantly. At the base, the pedestal fans out into four cabriole legs (S-shaped) beautifully shaped. Each leg is adorned with foliate carvings and Rococo scrolls on the upper part ("knee") and ends with a scroll foot carved with precision. The curved legs not only provide stability but give the table a sense of movement and grace.

Technical Details:

Construction is solid and traditional. Under the top, a cross-support structure (crossbar) in dark wood is visible, fixed with antique screws, securing the top to the pedestal (as shown in the close-up detail photo). This table is designed as a central piece, perfect for a foyer, a library, or as an elegant breakfast table.

Conditions:

The table is presented in excellent antique condition. It is structurally solid and stable. The top finish is glossy and well preserved; it shows only minimal signs of wear, micro-scratches, and very slight imperfections consistent with age and decent use (visible only in raking light). There are no obvious cracks, rough restorations, or missing parts in the carvings. The legs and feet are intact. Please examine the detailed photos carefully for a precise assessment of surface condition.
