Description from the seller

Look closely at all the photographs.

The dark pheasant is not a distinct species: it is a melanistic variety of the Colchian pheasant, noted Phasianus colchicus var. tenebrosus. It is also not an hybrid, nor the product of a cross between species — it is a natural mutation, linked to an increased production of melanin, first reported in England, in Norfolk, around 1880; dedicated breeding began in the 1920s. The cock carries a deep black plumage with green and metallic blue reflections where the common pheasant shows copper and gold; the hen, predominantly black with dark brown nuances, is also recognizable from a distance, unlike the common beige striped pheasant. The trait is transmitted in a fixed manner: two dark birds bred together produce entirely dark offspring, whereas crossing with a normally colored bird yields offspring of both types, the normal coloration being dominant.

If you look at the last photo showing a living specimen in its natural habitat, you will notice that the resemblance is exact in every respect. We could fairly conclude that it is the same bird.

The beauty of this taxidermy, created in early 2026, is brazen, very close to Museum Quality. The dark plumage color with its metallic reflections is remarkable.

It is a great pleasure for us to offer you this exceptional lot, rare and unique to All and Everyone, here, and only here, on Catawiki.
Not to be missed!!!

Good luck!!!
