Description from the seller

Very complete Roman Missal – Alfred Mame et Fils, 1898 – 4 bound volumes with original box

Superb antique set for religious bibliophilia comprising the four volumes of the very complete Roman Missal for use in the Diocese of Paris, published in Tours in 1898 by Alfred Mame et Fils, papal publishers.

This set consists of four parts corresponding to the seasons of the liturgical year:

- Winter
- Spring
- Summer
- Autumn

The four volumes feature an elegant brown binding with a leather-like appearance, with raised bands on the spine, gilded titling and ornaments, as well as gilded edges. The set is preserved in its matching storage box, bearing the inscription “Souvenir – 1er mars 1903”.

The box has a functional clasp, but the rear hinge is detached. Its interior is decorated with paper in antique patterns, adding extra charm to this period presentation.

Old condition with signs of use and patina of time. The bindings show rubbing and visible wear at the headcaps, corners, and on the boards. The gilded edges show aging marks. The box also shows signs of use. The volumes are complete.

A decorative and historical collection that will appeal to enthusiasts of old books, traditional bindings, and French religious heritage from the late 19th century.

Publisher: Alfred Mame et Fils, Tours
Date: 1898
Number of volumes: 4
Language: French, with possible Latin liturgical elements.
Subject: religion, liturgy, old books
Sold with: antique storage box damaged
