French carriage clock in a small format, crafted from brass, glass and steel, with a mechanical wind-up movement and an eight-day power reserve, in working order and good used condition with signs of age, approximately 12 cm high (handle up) or 9 cm (handle folded), 7 cm wide, 6 cm deep, weighing about 500 g, winding key included.
Description from the seller
Small-format carriage clock in brass and crystal, with a folding top handle, spherical finials, and four turned feet, rear door for access to the winding arbors and setting the time. White dial with black Roman numerals, peripheral minute track, and blue-patinated spade and sword hands for hours and minutes. Mechanical manual-wind movement with key (included in the lot) and a power reserve of approximately eight days.
The mechanism bears the “FRANCE” stamp and the distinctive mark of Couaillet Frères: a curved arrow with a widened tip accompanied by dots, located beside the hour-setting axis. The Couaillet Frères manufacture, founded in 1903 by Armand Couaillet and his brothers Ernest and Henri in Saint-Nicolas-d’Aliermont, Normandy, was one of the French producers of carriage clocks in the early 20th century.
It retains patina, signs of use and wear typical of its age, visible in the photographs, which are part of the description. The contextual photos were produced with AI and therefore do not carry a timestamp, which would normally attest to the current state of the piece.
Approximate dimensions: 12 cm high with the handle raised and 9 cm high with the handle folded; 7 cm wide and 6 cm deep. Approximate weight: 500 g.
Shipping is made the day after the auction ends, using protective material and a reinforced box to prevent damage in transit. A tracking number will be provided.
