Description from the seller
Antique double wedding sheet (prop designed for a trousseau), an authentic masterpiece of Italian textile craftsmanship dating to the Liberty period (before 1914). The piece stands out for its extraordinary level of execution and museum-quality preservation, ideal for purist collectors or as a luxurious decorative accent piece (monumental runner, bedhead, or drapery).
Key Features & Hand Stitching Techniques:
Fabric and Authenticity: Made in pure heavy antique linen with a tactile body. The semi-open weave clearly highlights the typical “fire marks” and the small irregular yarn knots, unmistakable testimony to artisanal spinning and the subsequent pounding on early 20th-century handlooms.
The Central Monogram: At the top presides a majestic and sinuous floral monogram with intertwined initials "T" and "S" in an elegant late 19th/early 20th-century cursive script, masterfully executed in relief chain stitch.
Cutwork Technique: The letters and the rich botanical trailing motif (characterized by umbrella-like flower heads and symmetric foliate designs) are finished with a very fine cutwork stitch, with the perforations impeccably clean and stable thanks to perfect needle-linking bars.
Double Fringe and Lace: The decorative base is organized by a double series of horizontal cutwork: an inner band in linear point (purl-like) and a rich outer band in almond-shaped point lace. The edge is finished with a delicate Valencienne-inspired lace, applied by hand.
Condition: Excellent / Collezionist Grade. The piece is structurally intact in every part. The linen retains a bright, uniform whiteness: it shows no yellowing halos from oxidation, no humidity/box stains, no tears or repairs, neither on the fabric body nor in the delicate cutwork perforations or the lace hem. Cleaned, sanitized, and ready for use.
