Description from the seller
Massive Solid Silver Ciborium and its Lid Cross - Silversmith Émile Doublet (ED) - Sleek Neo-Classical Style - France / Import - Circa 1900
Prestigious solid-silver covered ciborium, a sacred metalwork masterpiece dating from the turn of the century (circa 1900). This liturgical object adopts a neo-classical style of great sobriety, privileging the purity of lines over decorative excess.
The Master Silversmith’s Hallmark: clearly struck in a horizontal diamond on the rim of the cup and on the cross. The initials E and D are distinctly read, separated by a central symbol (a key or vertical tool). This is the mark of the Parisian silversmith Émile Doublet, specialized in high-end sacred art, active in Paris at the end of the 19th century and the very beginning of the 20th century.
The Official Control Mark: On the cross and the cup one can see an oval mark depicting a Swan in profile. In France, the Swan mark is the “hasard” or “customs guarantee” mark. It certifies that the item is solid silver (minimum fineness guaranteed at 800/1000), often used to seal second-hand pieces revalidated by French guarantee offices or of European import origin.
Photos are an integral part of the object description and complement its presentation. They allow you to appreciate its condition and features. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.
The item will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
