Germany - Leica / Leitz Laborlux S Phase Contrast Microscope (Working, Original Optics, Missing Stage Plate) - c. 1980s
Description
Original Leica / Leitz Laborlux S biological laboratory microscope produced in Wetzlar, Germany (c. 1980s).
This high-grade optical instrument has been powered on and fully tested—the built-in base illumination system turns on and operates as intended, and all installed lenses and eyepieces are original Ernst Leitz / Leica optics in great physical condition.
Key Features & Specifications
Brand & Model: Leitz / Leica Laborlux S (Ernst Leitz Wetzlar / Leica Microsystems)
Origin: Germany
Period: Circa 1980s – 1990s
Optics: Complete set of original Leitz / Leica objectives mounted on a 5-position revolving nosepiece, paired with WHK 10x/20 widefield eyepieces.
Condenser System: Original Leitz Wetzlar phase contrast / darkfield turret condenser (Model 513 556) with functional aperture and phase settings.
Power & Lighting: Tested and fully operational integrated base light source.
Condition: Overall great physical and optical condition. All dials, internal gearing, and optical pathways are intact.
Note on Stage: Sold as-is regarding the missing top stage plate/specimen board. The lower stage carrier mechanism and X-Y adjustment coaxial controls remain intact and fully operational.
Replacement Part Reference (For Buyers)
To complete the stage setup, compatible replacement parts to look for include:
Leitz / Leica Mechanical Stage No. 18
Leitz / Leica Specimen Stage No. 11(Stage plates from the Leitz / Leica Laborlux 11, 12, or Dialux series also share the same mounting base).
While the top stage plate is missing, replacement plates are widely available on the secondary market and relatively inexpensive to acquire (typically around $50–$100 USD), also making this a highly cost-effective entry point for a valuable Leitz Leica microscope whose original, authentic parts remain in exceptional condition.
