Description from the seller

13-Piece Royal Staffordshire Era Ceramic Service in Antique White Ironstone - Model "Safe Harbour" - England

Splendid and elegant vintage 13-piece service in fine English ceramic (ironstone), produced by the renowned Royal Staffordshire Ceramics under the direction of A.J. Wilkinson Ltd in Burslem, England. The set features the iconic and highly sought-after decoration "Safe Harbour", inspired by an ancient original drawing from 1829 by the engraver Rogers. The refined central scene depicts a evocative 19th-century marine panorama, rich in detail, with majestic clipper ships moored in a safe harbor, framed by a sumptuous geometric and floral relief border that follows the distinctive octagonal shape of the plates. The multicolored decoration on the front combines with a splendid and uncommon bluish-lavender or pastel blue coloration on the exterior reverse surface, a highly collectible color variant. Each piece bears on the back the prestigious authentic maker's mark hand-stamped under glaze, depicting a sailing ship and the historical model inscription. The lot comprises two large flat serving plates measuring 24 x 24 cm and a rare complete set of twelve small dessert plates measuring 17 x 17 cm, optimal for integrating or completing an antique service.

The service is kept in excellent condition and the ceramic retains its beautiful original sheen intact. Eleven pieces are free of chips, cracks, restorations, or structural flaws, except for one small plate with a clearly evident chips in the gallery, with a past restoration attempt.

The attached photos are an integral part of the description and clearly show the integrity and marks of each individual piece.

Seller's Story

For over 20 years, I have dedicated myself passionately to the search for and trading of special, rare, curious objects from any era. Every piece I select has something that catches my attention: it can be the shape, the story, the unusual aspect, or simply that detail that makes it unique. I am always searching for objects that speak, that tell something to those who know how to listen. I choose them carefully, photograph them honestly, and describe them as accurately as possible. Selling on this Catawiki to share this passion with those who, like me, love to surround themselves with things with a soul.
