Description from the seller
Museum monumental natural stone sculpture "Mother in law" - Dick Dal (1945–2026)
An impressive, monumental and unique natural stone sculpture by the Dutch Outsider Art artist Dick Dal (1945–2026). The work is titled "Mother in law" and is fully signed at the bottom with his characteristic signature "DAL".
This powerful, two-faced artwork (Janus-head style) shows on one side a sleek, geometrically stylized face with pronounced lips and on the other side a round, pensive face with large almond-shaped eyes that subtly rest on a hand or arm. The form language is characteristic of Dal's drive to capture pure forms and primitive expression directly from the subconscious into stone.
The sculpture has been hand-carved from a heavy quality, deep-red-brown natural stone. The surface is beautifully smooth-polished, making the subtle, dark veining and color variations of the stone come to life. Given its size and exceptional weight of almost 50 kilograms, this is an extremely exclusive museal unique piece from the artist's posthumous oeuvre.
