Description from the seller
A delicate West Asian gold pendant model shaped like a leaf. Thin gold leaves were hammered to form four petals that are arranged vertically with spaces between them. Each petal is rounded at the top and tapers to a point. At the top there is a gold loop for hanging. Slight signs of use consistent with age, such as chips along the edges.
In antiquity, many great civilizations inhabited the West Asian region, and their wealth and prosperity are evidenced by the highly sophisticated jewelry making in precious metals. Gold was hammered into a thin layer and formed into various shapes. Gold and silver jewelry was embellished with gold granulation, glass inlays and semi-precious stones, as well as detailed engravings. Very fine granulation and filigree work were central to West Asian jewelry making and were later adopted by the Greeks, Etruscans and Romans.
