Description from the seller
Beautiful polished Mookaite Jasper sphere with fluid chromatic patterns, from a collectors' edition. — This magnificent sphere is a specimen of Mookaite Jasper, a microcrystalline silica chalcedony variety, known for its sedimentary origin rich in fossilized radiolarians. Mookaite typically forms in beds of silica, where radiolarian shells dissolve and are replaced by silica, creating a solid matrix that can display a remarkable range of colors. Its chemical composition is mainly SiO2, with traces of iron oxides that give it its distinctive pigments. The specimen stands out for a color palette dominated by ivory-yellow, ivory, and terracotta tones, blending into organic, fluid patterns. Brown veining and segments of deep red visually enrich the surface, creating a dynamic and harmonious contrast. The luster is vitreous, highlighting the meticulous finish and the high quality of the polishing that enhances local transparency and color depth. A few small inclusions and natural micro-fractures are present, typical of the mineral and testimony to its geological formation. The provenance of this type of jasper is exclusive to Australia, specifically from Mooka Creek in the Kennedy Range region, Western Australia. This geological context, characterized by Lower Cretaceous sedimentary rocks, allowed the formation of unique silica deposits containing radiolarian fossils, which gave rise to this gem. Its formation is tied to complex and prolonged diagenetic processes that involved silicification of marine sediments. From an aesthetic standpoint, the sphere is a natural work of art. The perfectly geometric shape highlights the mineral’s internal motifs, allowing a 360-degree view of its intricate color formations. The patterns that emerge on the surface are unique to each piece of Mookaite, making every sphere an irreplaceable work of art created by nature. The surface is exceptionally smooth to the touch, indicating careful artisanal workmanship. The specimen is presented in excellent condition, with no signs of damage or significant alterations that could compromise its aesthetic or mineralogical value. It is free of any permanent supports, allowing complete freedom of display and appreciation. Its structural and surface integrity is excellent, confirming its suitability for a high-level collection. This Mookaite Jasper sphere represents a collection-worthy specimen of notable interest, not only for its intrinsic beauty and its specific geographic provenance, but also for its ability to illustrate unique geological processes. The combination of size, distinctive coloration, and flawless workmanship makes it a desirable piece for gemologists, mineralogists, and collectors of cut minerals who value the uniqueness and geological history contained in every stone.
