Description from the seller
Porsche 935/78 Moby Dick
DRM Norisring 1981
Giampiero Moretti
Gianpiero Moretti finished in second place in Division I (Group 5) during the DRM (Deutsche Rennsport-Meisterschaft) race at the Norisring on June 28, 1981, driving this Porsche 935.
The 935/78 was the ultimate expression of the 911 factory racing car before Porsche officially withdrew from motorsport. The result was the nickname 'Moby Dick' due to its enormous size and gigantic overhangs. Only one 935/78 was built, with chassis number 935006, used by the sponsored Porsche factory racing team.
The Porsche 935 is a race car developed as the factory racing version of the 911 (930) Turbo and was prepared according to FIA Group 5 rules. It was a development of the Carrera RSR 2.1 turbo prototype, which finished second in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1974.
Porsche offered the 935 to customers participating in the World Constructors' Championship, the IMSA GT Championship and the DRM. Of the 370 races the car participated in, it won 123.
The Porsche 935 was dominant for many years at many circuits and ended in 1982 due to changes in FIA rules.
