Provenance: Zhejiang Province, which is a province in eastern China on the edge of the East China Sea. Weight: 75.50 g. Dimensions: 51x45x36 mm. Superb spherical calcites lining the interior of this Basalt Geode. The spheres are translucent, white to creamy white, slightly honey-toned. They are composed of small calcite lamellae that give them a rosette-like appearance. The luster is rather vitreous to pearly. The contrast on black basalt is very striking.
Outside of pure basalt, the cavities of basalt rocks in Zhejiang (notably in the Hangzhou Prefecture) host mineral specimens sought by collectors, such as spherical calcites colored white, yellow or green formed directly on basalt matrices.
