Description from the seller
Elegant opaline glass vase from the late 19th century, a piece of refined historicist aesthetics that combines the delicacy of milky glass with careful decoration inspired by classical motifs. Its silhouette, with a bulbous body and a long campaniform neck, responds to decorative models highly valued in the second half of the nineteenth century, when European glass manufactures revived the ornamental repertoires of the past to adapt them to the bourgeois taste of the era.
The opaline glass presents an attractive ivory-white tone that softly transforms into a pale blue tint at the top, creating a delicate gradient effect of great visual subtlety. The hand-painted decoration runs along the vase’s shoulder through hanging garlands, enamelled dots, and symmetrical scrolls inspired by Neoclassical ornament. Notable are the details in reddish, black, gold and blue tones, executed with precision and enriched by small geometric and vegetal motifs that lend lightness and elegance to the whole.
The composition is organized around a central ornamental medallion, from which festive festoons emerge, evoking architectural and textile adornments of classical tradition. This Neoclassical influence, reinterpreted from the decorative sensibility of the late nineteenth or early twentieth century, bestows the piece with a harmonious balance between formal sobriety and ornamental richness.
For the quality of its opaline glass, the fineness of its glazed decoration, and the elegance of its proportions, this vase constitutes an excellent example of European decorative arts of its time, ideal both as a collectible object and as a decorative element capable of imparting distinction and luminosity to any classical, romantic or eclectic interior.
Certified shipping and good packaging.
