AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Pair of gilded wooden frames, Liberty period, with the classic long leaf and lozenge decoration. Italy, early 1900s. MADE IN ITALY.

The decoration
The whole band is worked in relief: long leaves that open out from a round boss and close again into the next one, over a finely punched ground that catches the light. A beaded moulding runs along the inner sight edge and a gadrooned one along the outer edge. It is the repertoire of the Italian Liberty frame, with the decoration carried across the entire moulding instead of being concentrated on the corners.

The gilding
The gold is worn in the honest places, on the high points of the leaves and along the outer edges, with the darker preparation showing through underneath. Nothing has been refreshed or repainted: this is the patina of more than a century.

Why a pair
Two matching frames are worth more than two single ones. With an inner size of 18 x 24 cm they take a standard print, a photograph or a small watercolour with no cutting at all, and two of them facing each other on a wall do half the work for you.

External measurements 22.5 x 29 cm each, inner sight size 18 x 24 cm. Good condition, with the normal signs of age and handling and small losses along the edges, exactly as shown in the photos. Careful packaging and tracked shipping worldwide.
