Historical context

It was commissioned as a particularly royal gift on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of her reign as Queen of the Netherlands (she ascended the throne in 1980). The royal monogram engraved on the front of the black base is her official royal cipher.

Het werd in opdracht vervaardigd als een bijzonder koninklijk geschenk ter gelegenheid van het 10-jarig jubileum van haar regeringsperiode als koningin der Nederlanden (zij besteeg de troon in 1980). Het koninklijk monogram dat in de voorzijde van de zwarte voet is gegraveerd, is haar officiële koninklijke cijfer.
