Description from the seller
Three miniature glazed money chests from the Ming period – (#5160)
Taking care of loved ones in the afterlife was and still is very important to the Chinese people. For thousands of years miniature copies of the things which were used in real life were interred with the dead. During the Ming dynasty (1368 - 1644), blue, green, brown and aubergine glazes were used to give pottery objects, also called tile-works, more appeal. The objects were acquired from antiques dealers in Hong Kong in the period 1989-1994 and were formerly part of the Lowlands-collection.
(1 & 2) Pair of money chests on low cabinets
Miniature pair of green glazed money chests on unglazed low cabinets. The money chests and the cabinets are attached together. Depicted on the front of the cabinets are two drawers. Height 12.5 cm. Width 8.8 cm. Depth 7.9 cm.
(3) Money chest with fixed lid
Miniature green and amber glazed pottery model of a money chest. This one is of exceptional quality. The lock, hinges and handles are well modeled and glazed in an amber color. On the bottom remnants of fine plant roots are still present. Length 13.5 cm. Width 9.5 cm. Height 11.5 cm.
