AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Four miniature glazed funerary objects from the Ming period – (#5245)
Taking care of loved ones in the afterlife was and still is very important to the Chinese people. For thousands of years miniature copies of the things which were used in real life were interred with the dead. During the Ming dynasty (1368 - 1644), blue, green, brown and aubergine glazes were used to give pottery objects, also called tile-works, more appeal. The objects were acquired from antiques dealers in Hong Kong in the period 1989-1994 and were formerly part of the Lowlands-collection.

(1) Table screen
Miniature partly glazed table screen. The rim is glazed on one side in an brown color. The unglazed part would have been cold-painted. The back is also unglazed. Width 7.5 cm. Depth of the stand 3.3 cm. Height 8 cm. Thickness 0.7 cm.

(2) Round vessel with three feet
Miniature green and amber glazed vessel with three feet. Vessels like this had a sacrificial purpose and would be placed on an altar. Usually they were used to burn incense. This one is still in very good condition. Height 6.3 cm. Diameter vessel 5.4 cm. Diameter rim 5 cm.

(3) Square sacrificial vessel
Miniature dark green glazed square pottery sacrificial vessel on four feet. Vessels such as this were used for the burning of incense and could be found, usually in an ensemble with other vessels, on altar tables. This one is still in good condition. Length 8.6 cm. Width 4.1 cm. Height 9 cm.

(4) Vase with ring handles
Miniature green and amber glazed pottery vase. The vase itself is green but the rings which form the handles have been glazed in an amber color. It has no bottom. Height 8.5 cm. Diameter vase 3.8 cm. Diameter rim 2.2 cm. Diameter base 3.2 cm.
