AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Miniature glazed pottery figure – Sui/Tang dynasty – (#5190)
Standing glazed pottery man. He is covered in 'straw-glaze', so called because of its yellowish color. The glaze has degraded over time and a layer of water-based paint which was applied over it is mostly gone. The remaining traces still give a good indication how the statue must originally have looked. A hole in his right hand suggests that he used to hold a stick-like object of some kind, perhaps a banner. The man who is most probably a servant dates from the Sui to Tang periods (AD 591 - 907). There are some chips on the pedestal. The object was acquired from an antiques dealer in Hong Kong in the period 1989-1994 and was formerly part of the Lowlands-collection. Height 22.6 cm. Width 6.2 cm. Depth 4.7 cm.
