Sculptural Ellipse rocking chair, designed by Renato Zevi for Selig, with a heavy chrome frame and black velvet upholstery, Italian origin, Mid-Century Modern, dating from 1970–1980, dimensions 80 × 70 × 100 cm, in good condition with minor signs of age and small stains.
Description from the seller
Offered is an icon from the Mid-Century Modern era: the sculptural "Ellipse" rocking chair from the 1970s. This eye-catching design is sought after worldwide and is known for its strong design parallels with the work of American master Milo Baughman, produced by Selig (design Renato Zevi).
The chair is a masterpiece of form and construction. The most striking feature is the heavy, solid frame of high-gloss chrome-plated steel, which in two perfect ovals (ellipses) forms the base for both the rocking mechanism and the elegant armrests.
The floating seating element is richly tufted and upholstered in luxurious, deep black velour or velvet fabric that forms a beautiful contrast with the mirrored chrome work. The chair is equipped with the original, distinctive roller cushion that is mounted at the top with straps and serves as a comfortable headrest. Thanks to the ergonomic, deep seat, the chair offers unparalleled comfort and a wonderfully relaxing rocking experience.
An absolute design classic that fits perfectly in both Hollywood Regency, vintage Mid-Century, and a modern, eclectic interior.
