In 1977 glass artist Willem Heesen (former chief designer of the Glasfabriek Leerdam) opened his own studio here. He wanted to break the boundary between the designer and the glassblower who executes it. Thus De Oude Horn became the cradle for the so-called studio glass in the Netherlands.
Current leadership: Since 1995 the studio has been led by his son, the well-known glass master Bernard Heesen. (AI)
