PAVIA / P A V I A ., by Jodocus Hondius il Giovane (1593–1629), Italy, Lombardia / Pavia, copper engraving with later hand colour, 190 × 250 mm, from Thesaurus antiquitatum et historiarum Italiae, depicting a bird's-eye view of Pavia with its bastioned walls, the Ticino river and the Pont Coperto.
Description from the seller
Splendid and rare aerial view of the city of Pavia, enclosed by its imposing fortified walls and bathed by the Ticino River (Tesino Flu.), animated in the foreground by boats of the era and by the famous Covered Bridge.
Critical note on the author:
The map is impressed from the famous seventeenth-century original plate by Jodocus Hondius, etched for the first time around 1626-1627 for the work Nova Accurata Italiae Hodiernae Descriptio.
The sheet presents the original margins (in particular the upper one). A slight irregularity is noticeable along the left and upper edge, due to the old insertion or removal from the editorial binding of the Thesaurus, which does not affect the engraved part.
Small marginal cuts
