Description from the seller
SYRIA (French Protectorate). Paris. 1 Piastre. 1940.
- Value: 1 Piastre.
- Year: 1940.
- Inscriptions: Obverse: دولة سورية · ETAT DE SYRIE. Reverse: غرش واحد · 1 PIASTRE 1 · 1940 · ١٩٤٠.
- Grading: MS63 (NGC).
1 Piastre coin, designed by Henri-Auguste Patey and minted at the Monnaie de Paris. The obverse features a crown formed by oak and olive branches, flanked by two stars and surrounded by the name of the State of Syria in Arabic and French. The reverse shows two lion heads among olive branches, with the face value and the year expressed in both writing systems. The specimen retains well-defined relief, a grayish metallic luster, and attractive fields, though with a granular texture and small marks inherent to zinc, features compatible with the MS63 grade. Struck during the Mandate Republic and in the early months of World War II, this issue reflects the French administration and the bilingual character of its monetary system.
Disclaimer: For orders shipped outside the European Union, I want to be absolutely clear that I ship from Spain, which means that if the package is sent to any country outside the European Union, and/or within the EU that has a special tax agreement (example: Canary Islands), it might be stopped in your local customs and they might ask you to pay taxes. This is a customs procedure and is completely out of our control. Thanks for your understanding.
