Description from the seller
We present a Caucasian Shirvan rug from Dagestan (Russia), made in the mid-20th century, roughly between 1950-1960
The rug is hand-knotted with top-quality wool on a cotton base, using a symmetric knot. The wool is very fine, bright, and extremely soft to the touch, with an exceptional finish that recalls silk, which demonstrates a selection of premier materials and very careful craftsmanship.
The design belongs to the Shirvan tradition, with a balanced and elegant composition, characteristic of the Caucasian school. It features excellent definition of the motif and well-preserved colors for its age.
The piece is in very good condition, with uniform pile, well-finished edges, and original fringes.
