Description from the seller

Colors of the Atlas – a unique handmade piece of Berber textile art

This special carpet is completely handwoven in Moroccan Berber/Amazigh tradition, using wool for both the pile and the underlying structure. The result is a wonderfully soft and characterful wool-on-wool rug with a distinctive, artistic look.

The composition is built from a playful mosaic of geometric shapes, lines, and abstract motifs. No two panels are exactly the same. It is precisely these irregularities, subtle color differences, and small variations in the craftsmanship that give the rug its authentic character.

The many colors make the piece particularly expressive. Terracotta, red, pink, ocher yellow, turquoise, green, cream, black and earth tones come together in a harmonious whole. The warm natural hues are alternated with bright colors, allowing the rug to fit both modern and bohemian, vintage, or eclectic interiors.

The symbolism

Amazigh/Berber rugs are known for their symbolic and personal visual language. Geometric shapes, lines, and abstract signs are traditionally used to express themes from daily life and nature, such as protection, femininity, fertility, connectedness, movement, and harmony.

The exact meaning of a motif can, however, vary by region, community, and weaver. In this rug, it is especially the combination of different geometric forms and colors that gives it its unique, almost painterly appearance.

The rug thus feels not only like a decor piece but more like a handmade artwork for the floor.
