Natural quartz sculpture from Brazil, weighing 3.17 kg, featuring golden rutile crystals on hematite.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Unique bowl from Brazilian quartz – golden rutile on hematite – 3.17 kg

The item up for auction is an impressive bowl made from natural quartz containing numerous golden rutile crystals growing on dark hematite crystals.

Mineral origin: Brazil.

The most characteristic feature of this specimen is the spectacular, radiating clusters of golden rutile needles, rising from dark, metallic-sheened hematite crystals.

Inside the semi-transparent quartz they form three-dimensional compositions reminiscent of stars, sunbeams and golden fans.

Individual needles vary in thickness and length, and their arrangement is clearly visible thanks to the polished surface of the bowl.

Quartz has colorless, grayish and slightly smoky hues, with natural internal structures. The varied transparency of the stone gives the entire composition depth.

The bowl has an irregular, organic shape with a wavy edge. Careful workmanship allows viewing the inclusions from different angles.

Technical data

Material: natural rutile-bearing quartz with hematite
Inclusions: golden rutile on hematite
Geological origin: Brazil
Dimensions: 29.5 × 17 × 7 cm
Weight: 3170 g (3.17 kg)
Form: polished collector’s bowl
Finish: polished

Origin of the collection and authorship

The bowl comes from a private collection of mineral decorative objects, which I purchased in Stuttgart, Germany.

According to oral information I was told, the author of the bowls belonging to the collection was Gerhard Becker, a craftsman associated with the tradition of artistic stoneworking in Idar-Oberstein.

I purchased the collection from another person, not directly from the purported author.

I do not possess documents confirming authorship of this particular bowl, therefore attribution to Gerhard Becker remains unconfirmed.

Collector’s value

The combination of golden rutile, dark hematite and translucent quartz creates an extraordinarily decorative effect.

Particularly attractive are the numerous radiating crystal clusters, which can be observed inside the stone from different directions.

Large dimensions, a weight of over 3 kg and a sculptural form make the bowl an impressive collectible and decorative piece.

Seller’s information

I am selling a portion of a private collection to raise funds for the renovation of a house damaged by the 2024 flood.

I hope the bowl will find a collector who will appreciate the unique arrangement of natural crystals and the craftsmanship of stone working.

Photos depict the offered specimen. The bowl will be carefully secured for transport.
