Filigree silver refers to a technique in which silver wire is used to draw fine, thin threads and fill the material with extremely fine strands. This technique has been used for centuries and has led to the creation of unique and decorative objects, such as knife handles, snuff boxes, centimeter rulers, and jewelry. In the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, filigree silverwork was popular and formed an important craft in the Netherlands. The silversmith made a framework of thicker wire to make the object sturdy, and between these wires thinner wires were placed to fill in the framework. Filigree silverwork is not only aesthetically appealing but also suitable for and sought after by collectors.
