Beneath its apparent irascibility lies the unspeakable seduction of scents and silences, and a nature that moves for its strength, for its eternal youth.... Bocelli - 2014) The Gorgona project was born in August 2012 thanks to the collaboration between Frescobaldi and Gorgona, the only prison-island in Europe. Here the prisoners spend the final period of their sentence, working in contact with nature to develop skills that facilitate reintegration into working and social life. Around a small vineyard, in the heart of an amphitheater from which the sea can be seen, the project begins with the aim of allowing prisoners to have a concrete and active experience in the field of viticulture, with the collaboration and supervision of Frescobaldi agronomists and oenologists.Today the vineyard extends over two hectares, one of which is the original and the second planted in 2015. From this vineyard of Vermentino and Ansonica comes Gorgona, the result of the uniqueness of the place, of human work, and a symbol of hope and freedom. The label of Gorgona aims to be the “extraordinary edition” of the island, telling a different aspect every year. With Gorgona 2023, we wanted to tell about the wind, or better, about the winds that blow here playing a primary role in daily life. The four winds, the Grecale, the Scirocco, the Libeccio, and the Maestrale become fundamental elements in the island's viticulture, affecting the air temperature and thus the ripening of the grapes. Gorgona grows on a ferrous soil; it is a small vineyard of two hectares, wonderfully exposed to the east and protected from the winds. A vineyard planted in 1999, and subsequently in 2015 and 2018, where the Vermentino and Ansonica varieties have always been the undisputed protagonists. ...
