Artist and designer Æ (Bachelor’s degree in Digital Design and Multimedia Technologies, Barcelona, 2004 + Bachelor’s Degree in East Asian Studies). His work explores the meeting point between Japanese visual culture, underground manga, retro-futurism and contemporary graphic design. Influenced by 1980s computer graphics, minimalism, conceptual art and vintage print aesthetics, Æ creates artworks that reinterpret iconic cultural symbols through a modern visual language. His works are held in private collections in more than 30 countries, including The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

This triptych celebrates the golden age of Japanese tin robots and the mechanical heroes that inspired generations of collectors. Drawing together legendary figures such as Robby the Robot, Tetsujin 28, Great Mazinger, Astro Boy and classic Showa-era toy robots, the series reimagines them as if discovered inside a forgotten 1960s–1970s Japanese manga magazine. Distressed paper textures, dramatic black ink, halftone printing effects, cosmic imagery and oversized Japanese typography recreate the atmosphere of vintage toy catalogues, pulp magazines and retro science-fiction publications, capturing the optimism and imagination of Japan’s mechanical future.

Æ’s artwork is characterized by its restrained, high-contrast visual language, using limited colour, bold composition and symbolic imagery to create emotionally powerful pieces. By blending Eastern typography, vintage printing techniques and contemporary graphic design, these works become both nostalgic objects and modern graphic statements, inviting the viewer into a timeless universe where childhood memories, industrial design and retro-futuristic dreams coexist.

Artist was the subject of a review by respected exhibitions art curator Thierry Fournier (Artnoises).

“Collected Æ (XX), it comes down to wanting, breaking, transgressing an invisible border, merging the civilizational DNA of the future and the past. The work becomes a ticket, a simple ‘go!’ for an emotional teleportation that we live and see in black and white. Æ pushes you to jump into a void populated with images, symbols and unexplored signs that propel us into a Real Timeless!”
— Thierry Fournier (Artnoises) ★★★★★
