AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Bronze Age assemblage – Two fragments of a hilted sword and a spearhead

Culture: Bronze Age
Material: Bronze
Objects: 3 parts
Dating: Bronze Age

Object description

Interesting assemblage of three Bronze Age weapon fragments, consisting of two parts of a hilted sword and a spearhead.

The two fragments of the hilted sword show characteristic constructive features of a Bronze Age weapon. Especially notable are the preserved perforations in the hilt area, which may have served to attach hilt plates or to connect individual components. The surfaces display a pronounced greenish patina, underscoring the historical character of the objects.

The assemblage is complemented by a Bronze Age spearhead with a preserved, tapering tip and widened blade. This object also shows clear, age-related patination.

The three pieces offer an interesting insight into the manufacture and construction of prehistoric weapons. Because of their age, their characteristic forms, and their different states of preservation, they are particularly suited for an archaeological collection or a collection of prehistoric metal objects.

Condition

All three objects are in an age-appropriate, fragmentary or used preservation state. Visible are material losses, irregular break edges, and a natural green patina. The preservation corresponds to the condition shown in the photographs.

Please note the illustrations as an essential part of the condition description.

Provenance

Purchased at a gallery in Vienna.

From a former private collection (ex N. Slg Vienna), acquired on the Vienna art market in the 1990s.
