Description from the seller
Halomitra Pileus
Halomitra Pileus is a free-living, slender and delicate coral, circular in shape, sometimes dome- or bell-shaped. They do not have an axial groove. The corallites are widely spaced and increase in size as the colony grows. In small colonies, the septocostae radiate fan-like from the initial point. The septa have teeth similar to those of Fungia mushrooms. The tentacles of mature colonies extend only at night; those of juvenile colonies are commonly extended during the day. Colonies can be large and cover extensive areas of horizontal substrate. They are light brown in color, often with bright pink or purple margins, especially at night when they feed. But their skeleton is a perfect white!
Please note that the corals in auction are still covered by regular CITES documentation. It is expected that the Solomon Islands will publish new regulations regarding coral export. Any potential block would not only make it difficult to source these beautiful specimens on the market but also trigger a significant increase in their prices.
Lot absolutely to be won, Bowl with a particularly elongated shape. Pedestal not included, made from reclaimed material and used for photographic purposes only.
Happy bidding.
