AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Brandt the lamp, then the light beams from within through a circlet of glass scarabs, glowing like gemstones. A German Jugendstil pendant lamp in burnished brass, marked D.R.G.M. On the shade run pressed spiral vines with a row of circles. The scarabs in cobalt blue, emerald green, ruby red, amber and violet bring a touch of Egyptian revival into your home.

Description:
A round, flattened shade with a stepped collar and a bell-shaped socket holder carrying a porcelain socket. Around the collar runs a wreath of punched zigzag openings that vent the heat. The shade is pressed and domed from thin brass sheet; the relief of the vines also shows on the inside. The scarabs sit in toothed settings along the shoulder and are fixed inside with clinched claws. The deep chocolate-brown patina has been worn down at the highest points to a golden-yellow, so the decoration lights up against the dark ground.

About the maker:
Around 1905–1920 the German lamp industry produced pressed-brass shades with colored glass stones, the jewel shades. D.R.G.M. was the German mark for protected designs; the scarab follows the Egyptian revival. This shade, with its struck mark, belongs exactly to that series.

Inside:
Low above a dark dining table, in the evening: a warm circle of light, and above it five colours that glow from the metal.
