Detailed copperplate engraving (aquaforté) printed on contemporary laid paper, created by the celebrated royal cartographer Thomas Kitchin (1718–1784).
The map constitutes an extremely accurate testimony to the British road network of the 18th century, outlining in great detail the main postal and road routes ("Direct and Cross Roads").
The work is enhanced by an explanatory table of the counties in the upper left and by an elegant Rococo cartouche with the title in the upper right.
Conditions: Very good, clear inking, usual editorial folds due to the sheet being folded in the original volume, margins sound as in photographs. Excellent collectible specimen.
