Decorative sculpture in alloy metal, the Fauno Danzante di Pompei, produced in Italy in the second half of the 20th century, unsigned, with dimensions 13 cm wide by 29.5 cm high by 10 cm deep and weighing 1.08 kg, in good condition with a dark exterior patina and a golden interior base.
Description from the seller
Decorative sculpture in metal alloy – The "Dancing Faun of Pompeii" – Second half of the 20th century
Fascinating tabletop reproduction of the famous "Dancing Faun," whose bronze sculpture from the 2nd century BC was unearthed in 1830 in the eponymous House of the Faun in Pompeii (now kept at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples).
The work captures with dynamism the ecstasy of the Dionysian deity, depicted barefoot while taking a dancing step with arms raised. The body shows good anatomical definition, completed by the subject’s typical details such as the small horns among the curly hair and the flowing beard.
The figurine was made in the second half of the twentieth century using hollow casting. It features a dark patina artificially applied to the exterior to simulate the effect of ancient bronze, while the interior of the base reveals the golden tone of the underlying metal alloy (brass/bronze). An excellent and solid decorative accessory for archaeology and classical art lovers.
Excellent overall condition. The object is structurally intact, solid, and stable on its base. It shows light and normal signs of wear and artisanal workmanship on the external patina, which do not compromise its aesthetics but enhance its decorative character (please view the photographic gallery closely for full details, including the view of the inner back).
