Figure - Coppia di Candelieri Antichi in Bronzo Patinato Firmati Ferdinand Barbedienne – Francia, XIX Secolo - Wood

Pair of Antique Bronze Patinated Candlesticks Signed Ferdinand Barbedienne – France, 19th Century

Splendid pair of French sculptural bronze candlesticks patinated, dating to the mid-19th century, during the Napoleonic era, signed by the renowned Paris foundry Ferdinand Barbedienne.

The pieces depict two elegant full-round putti, depicted in different poses, supporting above their heads refined candlestick holders in the form of amphora baskets, richly decorated with grape clusters, grape leaves and Bacchic-inspired vegetal motifs. The figures show accurate anatomical modeling, with particular attention to facial expressions, hairstyles and body movement.

Both candlesticks rest on substantial circular molded bases, characterized by decorative relief bands with flowers, fruit and floral motifs, which give harmony and elegance to the entire composition.

The surface preserves a warm bronze patina with natural golden hues and traces of greenish oxidation, especially evident in the recessed parts of the decorations, features that enhance the depth of the reliefs and attest to the antique character of the objects.

Of particular interest is the engraved signature F. BARBEDIENNE, clearly visible on the base, traceable to the prestigious French Maison, renowned in the 19th century for the high quality of its artistic bronze castings.

A pair of great decorative refinement and notable sculptural presence, ideal for enriching consoles, fireplaces, desks or rooms furnished with antique furniture, perfect also for collectors and enthusiasts of 19th-century French bronzes.
