This Royal Marine Victorian Captain Chester chair is an antique British swivel chair made of brown leather and mahogany, measuring 66 × 64 × 85 cm with a 48 cm seat height.
Description from the seller
Captain Office Chester Chair – English leather cognac swivel chair in solid wood – Early 1900s
Measurements: 66 x 64 x H 85 cm – Seat height H 48 cm
Important study armchair in the English “Captain’s Chair” style, inspired by classic Chesterfield club and library models. Upholstered in cognac bovine leather, it features elegant capitonné tufting on the backrest and seat, profiles enhanced with decorative studs and padded arms with a wrapping line, which provide comfort and authority.
The solid wood frame, with turned elements and an arched crossbar, rests on a spoke base with wheels, making it practical and functional as well as scenographic.
Present mark “RM”, potentially attributable to Royal Marine, a detail that increases its charm and the reference to the nautical world and officer furnishings.
It presents in excellent overall condition considering its age: the leather preserves a beautiful natural patina; there are some cracks on the left armrest, easily restorable, and light signs of wear from time, consistent with the piece’s history and authenticity.
Ideal for study, library or characterful home office, it is a furniture piece with great presence that combines elegance, solidity and timeless British style.
