Manufacturer: Rosenthal (Kunst-Abteilung – Art Department), factory in Selb, Bavaria. Year of production: 1917 (World War I). Complete markings and signatures (visible on the bottoms): Kriegsmarke (War Signature): A unique, overglaze stamp in the shape of a shield with the Iron Cross and the dates 1914 (top) and 1917 (bottom), used only during wartime years. Factory logo: Classic crown with crossed lines and the inscription Rosenthal / Kunst-Abteilung / SELB-BAVARIA. Authorship signatures: Handwritten, overglaze inscriptions “Entwurf von Ph. Rosenthal” (design of the form by the brand’s founder) and “gemalt v. A. Keitel” (painter’s signature).
